A better question might be, how could any device with moving parts not break down eventually?
For consumer products a lot of things can be constructed to last a very long time before they do break down (Toyotas are a great example), but it costs money. If people will still buy Fords that break down all the time, what market motivation does Ford have to make cars that don't? It's all downside for them.
