Linux Mint.

No devices in the bedroom.

White list only installed at router. Kids have their own separate network.

Oh that's a good idea. I've been wondering what to do with my managed switch, and setting up a VLAN just for the kids would be great.

I'm not sure I could ever hire someone without computer skills, unless they are pretty much doing general labour. The difference in productivity between someone who can bend a computer to his will and someone who can barely operate a web browser is ridiculous.

For the people in this thread saying they don't give their kids access to any computer, I know you think you are doing them a favor, but you are limiting their ability to compete in the job market.

As long as it's a desktop pc and not a phone.

yes, he just gets the bios. i told him to write a boot loader and get a hello world program loaded from disk and we can talk about installing ms-dos

Hell, why not setup MULTICS and make him start there.....

I have a novel idea, how about we allow kids to use computers while being supervised and given an allotted time to be on them. I believe they refer to this a parenting... It's an adult thing.

You may have just released the Genie from the bottle.

Lol yeah, you're adulting so hard.

yes we allow zero techknowelogy in our home. NOTHING we are pure to our roots in mankind. We dont even allow metals unless we refine the metal our selves

I'm sure a lot of people use only Macs. I don't think that makes them good.

Anyone else raising their kids not using computers?

[–] 1 pt

Anyone? Hey, anyone?

Yeah, sorry but outside the Amish this is how it goes anymore. The scope of this post is supposed to be limited to raising kids using Microsoft Windows, not computers in general.

[–] 1 pt

Yeah, I suppose I was really only thinking about younger kids.

Grandson 17 and never been in front of a single computer. Carries a flip phone, that close enough? Both parents intact,he learned from books that were* in public schools in the 60's and 70's. My kid did damn good raising up exactly what they are. What your kids raise is what the parent you were.

[–] 1 pt

I really don't care whether or not your kid or grandkids were raised in front of a computer.

I'm asking about the Microsoft Windows operating system in particular.

[–] 0 pt

Cause your view is narrow It really is a bigger picture. You just didnt ask the bigger question.

[–] 1 pt

You're correct in that I didn't ask the question you wanted me to.

Grandson 17 and never been in front of a single computer.

yeah right

you think thats the way to go, yet here YOU are, larp

But Window's newest kid processor makes it so much easier! I can't imagine using any other software on them
