I'm not sure what this is in reference to. Is this just asking what sentence is more correct? "Much" as in "How much" could be little or a lot. Grammatically, all the first sentence is suggesting is that there is a finite amount to what you could do. Colloquially, "You could only do so much" means the same thing as "You could only do so little". "do so little" sounds weird in general, though.
