When your girl is old enough (depends on her, no hard age limit here really) make sure your wife is cooking with her and having her help. My six year old can make an American breakfast - eggs, bacon, and toast. We started with having her do simple tasks like grate cheese, stir the pot, etc.

Also, prepare for the whining. Girls whine about everything.
