You are most likely too late for that unless you want to study for a while.
Power washing business and/or gutter cleaning are probably the best. The cost to start is only a few thousand, it pays well, and you don't need special knowledge.
General handymen are also in demand, but you might need quite a bit more tools to begin with and enough knowledge.
Great advice! I have been using some apps to build my customer base (maintenance/handyman). I get the kind of crappy paying jobs in the app, make sure to leave my personal card with the customer, and boom, another repeat client. Most people have a variety of jobs they need done, the trouble is usually just finding those people. Then they in turn also get you more work by word of mouth if you do a good job.
Right now the housing market is booming so a lot of people are looking to sell their homes. Being able to jump in and repair minor nitpicky things, painting, and landscaping will all do well. Offering services to "prep homes to sell" would probably do well, because all the little things make a big impact on resell value as well as how long the home stays on the market. Depending on your area, painters make a killing. It doesn't take a lot to make a landscape look better with some mulch or pine straw. Pressure washing, window cleaning, lawn care. Take your pick. Probably best to specialize in the one you find least obnoxious so you don't spread yourself out too much initially with too low estimates on time to complete projects.
Once you know what you want to do, find the top rated real estate agents in your area and give them your info. They're always looking for dependable, regular guys. It'll help if you have references and photos of before/after to give them.
You know what, that’s a brilliant idea. I’ve heard that the local power washing guys are complete tools as well, I don’t imagine it would take much to get their contracts. Both of those things are recurring needs as well.
General handyman could come later. I do have quite a bit of tools already and wouldn’t mind buying more. Thank you, seriously.
There are resources on youtube and elsewhere on how to start and what not. Good luck mate.
The big bucks in power washing comes from corporate contracts. You will get paid for cleaning the feces from the asphalt in 7-Eleven parking lots at 2 AM. You’re going to need a crew of folks that doesn’t mind that type of work. Have fun with those characters.
Someone already mentioned that you’re going to do best starting a business in a field that you have already worked in. What is your past work experience? If you’re too young to have much work experience let’s figure out what you’re gonna do for the next two years to get that work experience before you open your own business.
