I think it’s also a byproduct of holding severe disdain towards anything “modern” by virtue of association with current society.

Which, to be fair, is warranted. I get that you can lose out on a lot if you don’t give it a chance, but damn, it can also go south if you lower your mental barricades for just a moment.
