At the very least it gives people some ideas on other approaches to solving a problem between people. There's a lot to examining things in your mind and how you react. Unlike animals we can revisit things and better understand what the threat was. Animals just become fearful of something and can't gain insight. I'd be wary of a lot of theory, but the basic talk therapy where someone is listening and you guide things naturally seems valuable, e.g. Carl Rogers.
