The answer is self explanatory.
They're survey scanner probes, if they actually exist.
They are not manned or even remotely piloted by more than something like a computer program or AI.
No telling what the source of the probes are or their mission.
This makes sense. Given how they fly I wonder if they are time travelling too.
Makes you wonder what's so special about now with sightings are ramping up.
I hadn't considered time travel as a possibility, it would seem to explain a great deal about how these things move.
