umm... monarchies have been around for a long time and they never hit our tech level. it may be a case of ignorance is bliss sorta paradim, is it a good thing to be educated? now adays education is needed for everything whether it is useful or not, we are just at the point of decline of an empire. all this crap happens when great empires fall so its not a big suprise everything is going to shit

And all of the precursors to that knowledge? Like math, chemistry and physics? Those inventions were made with knowledge built up over centuries really. Without that knowledge being built up before you would have never been able to invent those things. Think about it.
