These changes happen gradually over time, sometimes so slowly that you don't even notice them happening until you are past the change. With individuals, change can happen overnight, but with an entire culture it takes time. I remember the second half of the 1960s. For a few years there, it looked as though civilization was coming to an end. There were riots, bombings by German gangs (of all people), kidnappings of politicians, take-overs of university buildings. And do you know what happened? Nothing. It gradually all went away. The shooting at Kent State seemed to sober up a lot of people who were having a great time pretending to be anarchists, and it quieted down. What is happening today will quiet down also, and in a few years people will look back and wonder what the fuss was about. Meanwhile, the really big changes, the ones happening below the surface, will continue to advance our devolution, unless there is a counter swing of the pendulum, which could very well happen.
