Cleanest? You could always do one of these: https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html#for-pc but the learning curve is steep.
I've been running Manjaro for a year. No issues. If you're a linux noob coming from Windows I don't recommend jumping straight into a neckbeard distro like Gentoo or one of the one's linked above.
Just install Manjaro it's the cleanest and most user-friendly in my opinion. BSD and other not very well-known distros will have compatibility issues that'll make you want to slam your face through a plate-glass window. Trust me on this.
Im going to have to go with Manjaro for noobs looking for a Windoes replacement. Based in Arch, good cimpatability, and support for multimedia such as gaming. If you just want an internet machine with basic office apps go for Ubuntu. If you want a development machine for programming like web development go for LMDE.
