Like others have said, it's pretty much just a small convection oven. It doesn't really "fry" the food in the sense that a deep fryer does, so if you're expecting that, you will be disappointed. I bought one for my wife, it sits right next to my deep fryer. She uses the air fryer, and I just continue to use my deep fryer. Life's short, I'm going to go to the big sleep one day whether I eat real fried foods or not, and the air fryer just doesn't do it for me. As long as you know how to properly use a deep fryer, I can't say that I'd recommend an air fryer since I can already get what that offers from my oven.
Real talk , you cant fry battered foods in an air fryer .
Yeah, I forgot about that, but I did learn that one the hard way. Also, some things when "fried" in the air fryer don't turn golden brown, like frozen chicken fried steaks. They stay this sort of weird white, but they're still crispy.
Don't get me wrong - we enjoy our air fryer ; but I had a hankering for tempura shrimp the other day and you still got break out a wok and oil . I do prefer a wok and oil to a counter top deep fryer . One shouldn't eat so much fried food to need an appliance , and if used sparingly you don't want the oil sitting around that long .
