Yes, because I am religious
Yes, because it makes sense
No, but I hope to be disproved
No, universe is cold and dark

God told us?

He never called or visited me.

Surely you aren't referring to something found in some book written by people you don't know and have never met. That is hardly God 'telling us anything. So, the Buddhist texts, the Hindi Texts or some Jew documents? Do we trust some books but not all books? I trust Moby Dick. Does That count as truth?

It's all about you, isn't it? Because, what else have you got?

May I please reply thus: We all have the here and now. You, me, all of us. As for any particular deities, that, like an afterlife, is belief. Not known, as knowledge requires physical proof and we both lack that.

Guessing that you might be a Christian, well good for you. No? Maybe a Hindu? Well still good for you. I am not against any religion, but I have four decades of seriously studying these matters and have been unable to come to a logical, certain conclusion. If you BELIEVE this or that based on a book written by a total stranger, or BELIEVE something based on lectures from a trusted religious leader, well again, good for you.

Were you born in Saudi Arabia or Nepal, you must know that you would be of a very different opinion regarding beliefs. Time and circumstance makes you how you are and largely who you are and the same is true for me.

So, now in response to your statement, no, it's not all about me. We are all products of our place and time and situation. You BELIEVE that you might be going to heaven? Were we alone in a room for half an hour I might explain to you that the Bible speaks deeply about a resurrections ON EARTH with both Yahweh and Yeshua sitting on thrones in the New Jerusalem. Not in heaven. But maybe your religious teacher never explained that to you, I dunno. I could. But that's not my job. I don't push any belief system and never have done so. You may ask and I can quote scripture to demonstrate this, but it's not anything I feel an urge to bug people about.

My additional response to your statement, "What else have you got?" is this: I have family and friends whom I adore and a good life being a good person, living happily in the mountains on five acres and growing organic crops. If your deity would kindly contact me and explain details about an afterlife, I'll wish to share the information with you. On the other hand, if you've been contacted in similar manner by a deity, let me know who and how and what he said. if it was a text, shoot it to me. I'll gladly give you my phone number and email account. Despite years of waiting, I have not been contacted on any of these matters. Very disappointing!

This is pretty much my view on it. If there is a God he will surely not expect me to believe what other people told me just because, but will come to me himself and let me know what’s up. Nothing so far, and until then, I will not believe it.

I understand exactly where you are coming from. I used to be just as narrow-minded, arrogant and foolish as you are now. What changed for me was my realization that it was ridiculous for me to think that I knew anything about anything. Where did I get off, assuming that I was wiser than the millions upon millions of Christians who for 2,000 years had devoted their entire lives to Christ?

If you ever start to doubt the extent of your knowledge, or your ability to know anything at all, you may begin to perceive something of the spirit that is all around you. Materialism is a pathetically limited world view. It's like trying to peer into a palace of wonders through a keyhole. What you don't see is infinitely greater and finer than all you do see.
