Shangri-La, also called: Shambhala, which is a Sanskrit word meaning “place of peace” or “place of silence”, is a mythical paradise spoken of in ancient texts, including the Kalachakra Tantra and the ancient scriptures of the Zhang Zhung culture which predated Tibetan Buddhism in western Tibet. According to legend, it is a land where only the pure of heart can live, a place where love and wisdom reigns and where people are immune to suffering, want or old age.
The Kingdom of Shin-au-av: For centuries, legends of an underground city and an ancient race in Death Valley have been told in the Paiute Legend of the Kingdom of Shin-au-av. This place, meaning “God’s Land” or “Ghost Land,” is a sacred place to the Paiute.
Many cultures talk about secret civilizations underground or in remote locations. Even Europeans had mystical holy lands in the western ocean. The Elysian Fields were, according to Homer, located on the western edge of the Earth. Vanaheim (Old Norse Vanaheimr, “Homeland of the Vanir“ in Norse Mythology, Vanaheim lies somewhere to the west of Asgard, home of the Aesir gods and heroes in the same traditions. Problem is, neither place can be shown on maps today. There are ancient legends that Mt. Shasta, California has an underground empire. Every culture has its half-forgotten ancient paradise and underground or far away paradise legends.

I must have gone over a quarter mile in, but could still see the entrance behind me. Perfectly straight, fresh air, no bats or bugs. But it got so dark, I just had to turn around and stumble back out. To the best of my knowledge, none of the locals had ever gone in beyond a glimpse.
And other Indian tribes (Choctaw) claim to have come out of a hole in the ground in Texas. I read a historical marker there a while back.
I now live in western North Carolina, and we have legends of little people who got chased out and underground when the Cherokee Indians pushe them out. Called The Moon Eyed People. For fun, here they are https://allthatsinteresting.com/moon-eyed-people
