It's the 39 part of 7.62x39 I don't like. That's why I went 7.62x51. You can load a 190 grain bullet with 45 grains of 2000-MR powder for 2548 fps in 7.62x51. In 7.62x39 you're limited to a 123 grain bullet with 27 grains of RL7 powder for 2484 fps. That's 2738 foot pounds for the 7.62x51 compared to 1685 foot pounds for 7.62x39. At 200 yards the 7.62x39 is already down to 814 foot pounds and the 7.62x51 is still almost 2,000 foot pounds.
