It's probably more a lack of nuance than anything else. NASA has been repeatedly caught passing off fake pictures and video as real. The video of the moon landing, for example is fake. Does that mean we didn't land on the moon? Not necessarily, but it begs the question of how much is lies? You can no more trust NASA than you can trust a jew, so everything they've ever done comes into question.
However, just because Wendy's has actors holding plastic burgers in their ads that doesn't mean you can't go into Wendy's and buy a real burger from a real worker.
