That looks closer than I expected honestly. When I chose where to live, the quality and cleanliness of the major aquifers in the region was one of my main sticking points. I'd imagine the groundwater in the NE still has not recovered from all that industrial waste dumping.
How can you figure that information out? What do you do if you live somewhere that has bad water?
Look up water quality reports from the city. Call the labs that test water. Talk to the state land management agency that handles water rights. I called well drillers in the areas I was considering and asked them about the aquifers and water quality.
If you have less than desirable water, get a Berkfeld filter. The combo of ceramic and carbon microfilament filters are able to pull organic compounds like agricultural chemicals and pharmaceuticals out of water.
