Not everyone reacts to it. And it may not happen right away. Smoking doesn't kill you right away either. It takes a while.

Or they reacted and became infertile but you have to way of knowing that until they decide to procreate which is quite rare for most people nowadays. Also, you would only know if they decided to tell you and most people do not tell others "I'm infertile, yeah!"
