This is the Young Man's Guide by William Alexander Alcott (1833).

A glance inside just now reveals he takes from Burgh's The Dignity of Human Nature; Cobbett's Advice to Young Men and Chesterfield's Advice.

Assuredly better to take advice from long ago.
