Looking good, smelling nice can be components of charisma but aren't necessary. Shane McGowan has charisma and he looks like a drunken meth head. It is more about charm, personal magnetism that sort of thing.
Donald Trump has charisma at the high end of the charts while looking like an over grown toddler in a business suit whose mommy just took the tit away. I bet he smells great though

'No-talent' entertainers are almost always good-looking, and have financial backing. Try becoming a successful entertainer on your own, with average or homely looks. Good luck.
