The problem with a non-lethal shotgun round would be glancing blows, hitting non-critical parts of the body (non-dominant shoulder, for example), etc...
Even with pistol rounds, you need to shoot until blood pressure drops below the consciousness threshold (i.e. there is enough bleeding).
If you need to stop a threat, you need to stop a threat. Not kinda, sorta, maybe try to stop the threat. When someone is trying to stab someone else, you end the threat. Case closed. In a perfect world they live... But, in a perfect world, people wouldn't stab each other with 9-inch blades.

Shotguns will kill people, unless you load them with rock salt or some other non-effective pellets. The point is, maybe that non-lethal spray stops the criminal, but maybe it doesn't. And if it doesn't, maybe you are fucked.

Lol!! I thought I was kinda doing that I got a keltec. 22 30 round magazine.. so I could go shoot for fun and not have to reload a bunch.
Turns out .22 magnum is a pretty good home defense round and having 30 rounds makes it even better so ya thought I was getting a cheap plinker ended up with a decent home defense weapon.
I have a viper 12.. with 15 round magazines if any real shit goes down
