External fears such as realizing resources are finite, there are food shortages, other groups of people are dangerous etc. Internal fears meaning fear of failure, not having a place in society from not having anything to offer, signaling virtue to compensate for lack of value. I'm a bit tired and this is not the best worded.

I think I get where you are coming from.
I do believe to some extent conservatives govern with reality in mind, vs liberals governing with 'feels'.
