There's a town I know where there are still large clocks dating back about 200 years lining the road.

The road goes between a factory and the village where the workers lived.

The whole village was actually built just to house them. Practically overnight complete with community centers, shops, doctors, a school, even a church. There was no reason to leave. There was even slightly fancier houses for the managers.

No one could afford watches. The clocks are there to make sure workers have no excuse for being late. Clock time is for slaves.
