I ask because I think the time is coming when many of us will have to fight them. I've known quite a few people , some family , others from the neighborhood , family of friends who from fighting the viet cong up to the "drug wars" and counter insurgencies in central america in the 80s to fallujah in Iraq fought monstrous people , and themselves did monstrous things. Kidnapping , interrogations, summary executions etc.

These were for the most part decent people who were required to do terrible things. In my observation they went one of two ways. They either became psychopaths who just enjoyed hurting others , or enjoyed seeing others suffer , or became alcoholics or addicts , and just empty shells. So how does one fight beasts without becoming one ?

In one way or another we will all become monsters. We are all going to strive to survive. Our founding fathers were used to war and hardships so they were conditioned to it. The average American whines about no electricity after two days... The strong, smart and cunning will survive. The liberal sheep will be taken out in the liberal cities by various roving gangs. So embrace your monster, he is your safety net.

I just don't want to lose my humanity in the process.

I can understand that. None of us will ever be completely normal and we'll all have hangups. Once the dust settles and our new world is established only then can we focus on picking up the broken pieces to glue us back together.

Life doesn't care much what you want from it.

But take some courage! you live in a time of great upheaval and heroism! you will attain glory and be remembered! you will have saved the lives of countless innocents by persecuting the guilty!

Maybe you are just wanting the wrong things.

I have no issue with doing what needs to be done , I just don't want to lose my decency , humanity in the process
