The news anchors aren't there to inform you of the news. They are the "persona role models". They talk about the news in only one emotional tone every time and people grow to mimic after them. Soon, people start to parrot what he says like mini-Tuckers. Look at the male anchor on ABC. I've never seen anyone gloomier than him, along with the backdrop. Here's the kicker: the ads will be a total contrast to them. They'll be light hearted and humorous while offering some sort of relief.
At the end of the day, you're watching commercials with program breaks, not the other way around.
