Shaving cream does 2 things: Lubricates the beard, and soothes the skin. Soap does the first but not the second. In fact if you use it daily it dries the skin out quickly, clearly not an issue for you though so fill your boots. Hair conditioner is better than soap for occasional use but tends to accumulate so not suggested for long term.
