I've used an electric razor for years ... works well for me and no need for Gillette.
what brand do you use? wahl brand for me
Norelco razor and Braun beard trimmer.
Just pointing this out that Braun is also a P&G company.

I use soap, what ever soap I have on hand.
There's always the DIY route: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOIKYfkKozs
Also, growing a beard.
I've been using Proraso for years and I'm pretty happy with it. We went to Europe last summer and I forgot to take it with me though so I went to buy some locally. So. Many. Choices. and all so cheap. Like $2-$3 a tube. Cue shaving cream buying spree as I searched for the ultimate shaving cream.
I'm happy to report that I found it, a German brand called Balea. We weren't in Germany but someone had left a tube behind in an AirBNB otherwise I wouldn't have encountered it. But truly it is the hands down the best, and apparently it's darn cheap in Germany. Not the case on this side of the pond unfortunately, but you can find it on Amazon.
To be clear none of these were in an aerosol can. They are creams that you whip with a brush, just like your pappy did before going out to punch cows all day.
Second Proraso
Soap
Reddi Whip
I just tried some Van Der Hagen Shave Butter. First shave was great.
What is wrong with soap? Granted I have permanent stubble and only shave like once a year but I use soap.
Shaving cream does 2 things: Lubricates the beard, and soothes the skin. Soap does the first but not the second. In fact if you use it daily it dries the skin out quickly, clearly not an issue for you though so fill your boots. Hair conditioner is better than soap for occasional use but tends to accumulate so not suggested for long term.
Taylor of Old Bond Street, Proraso, Kiss my Face, Colonel Conk's, even walmart sells a soap called Williams, old as hell but works amazing.
Any kind of natural made soap you lather yourself will be leaps and bounds better than ANYTHING from a can
I'll check one of those out. Thanks!
I use Barbasol. They have a shave club now too, but I haven't tried it. I usually use Bic disposables.
Shaving cream is a total rip off.
They put all kinds of shit in there for it to spray out as a foam. Buy a tub of shave soap that is like a very very thick cream. No shit, 1 tub has lasted me 2-3 years and just about to finish it off (I don't shave every day though).
And ditch those fucking loser razors. Get a quality (German) double edged safety razor and some feather (Japanese) razor blades. You will have the best shave of your life (after a few bloody trials because the feathers are so damn sharp) and you will save TONS of money. Blades are pennies each and last a long time if rinsed and dried.
If you want to go all in, get a shave brush and real shave soap (hard like bar soap) and do it pro. For me I did it, but a lot more work than just using the old timey shave cream with a double edge safety razor.
Edit : Just checked. The one I'm using is called "Taylor of Old Bond Street" Sandalwood shave cream. Made in England. More like a very thick paste. Lather up a bit and thicker / better than any canned shaving cream. Been using this 1 tub for at least two years. I shave 1-2 times a week.
Thanks for the info!
Welcome! I switched several years ago and it is really far superior. I do keep a disposable type razor on hand for shaving under my nostrils / lips area FYI. Those feather razors are freaking crazy sharp. Make sure you have a bleed stick thingy if you try. You won't need it after a few shaves.
