Yeah most people who would get polio have mild or no symptoms. Only 0.5% experience muscle weakness and only 2-5% of those people would actually die. The real horror of polio is the crippling syndrome which can occur months or even years after recovery. In the late 50's and early 60's many batches of polio vaccine were found to be contaminated with the SV-40 (Simian) virus.
