The Gen X Apple maniacs I know tend to come from east Germany or the Soviet Union.
But I gotta say, if we ignore Linux and games Mac OS X often seems superior; especially with dual booting and hardware mods.
A shame that they killed that too by making these ARM chips that don't let you dual boot anymore; and I am not sure if Parallels will get updated this summer to enable running Windows as a VM for compatibility issues; they apprently made progress where no other VM did. Mac OS X was quite nice and Finder > Windows Explorer for sure (renaming, prompts, moving files, viewing options, universal quicklook without extensions), but nowadays they definitely messed up. Why have so many security prompts added when anyone can change your password by safe booting? You have to hack your security away to stop it being so incessantly sensitive. APFS file system and universal dark mode is the only good thing that came out since, I believe, Mac OS X Mavericks.
Also an AMD GPU and Windows just makes you think it shouldn't exist compared to Linux. I had a Synaptics touchpad Windows laptop with an AMD GPU and it was terribly frustrating to use. My almost ten year old MacBook Air with no storage room is much more pleasant to use.
Now if we talk about their smartphones? They are a piece of bull. Smartphones in general are terrible for tge general society. But tell me of one thing a chinkphone like Ulefone or a top spec phone like Xperia 5 II loses to an iPhone with. iPhones didn't even have a real video camera (there were applications for that but none official; classic Apple perfectionism I suppose) and they introduced things that ruin the industry. Screw Siri, screw the lack of buttons and need for dongles, screw their removal of 3D touch, home button and addition of fingerprint and face ID, screw the blanding minimalistic design, screw the cloud services post-MobileMe, screw automatic updates; modern Apple pushed this cancer. How did Jobs even appoint Rim Cook? Probably was a hack himself, the other Steve likely wanted to stay more in the shadows.
