My understanding of the process is this:

  1. create the rubber mold from original
  2. create the wax piece using the rubber mold
  3. create the final investment mold
  4. pour the metal

which products have you used? what sizes of objects have you done? any good references?

As a child I helped my uncle make several silver rings. He used the lost cast method. You must have a kiln.

Between steps 3 and 4, you place your mold, with the wax still inside, into the kiln. Proper heat profile is required to not break the mold. It remains in the kiln until the wax is fully vaporized. It then cools. Only then do you pour step 4.

I don't remember if he preheated the mold prior to pouring.

I’ve made a few rings. I carved the wax blanks into desired shape, insert into the investment filled flask, burn out wax, pour in molten metal.
