He's a 40 pound shepherd mix, and i was wondering about his diet. Currently i have a kitchen aid grinder. I create a cooked mix of meats, usually pork, lamb, and beef. It gets grinded into a fine meat, and then i use that as his weekly dog food. Any other suggestions for his food? I was thinking adding potatoes and rice, but i dont know if that's a good idea

Rice isn't as good as sweet potatoes. You can use it in moderation but kennels have an incentive to feed the most dogs for the least cost and effort. An individual has to decide what route they wish to take.
