I worked at a radio station in 2008, they had these old CD cartridge players, the CDs were in a case that had a sliding opening like a floppy disc to read the disc, the CD player accepted the whole CD case and slid the window open. Anybody know what these were called? Ive been trying to explain it to some people. Thanks

Mini-disk

Arguably still the best storage medium. I started using them while doing motor sports and ski/snowboarding in The late 90s since they would not skip from a sudden impact, Worked well at cold temperatures, and were more compact for travel while holding a ton of data. Formatted for mp3 I could get 300+ songs in folders on a single disk.

I need to dig those out. Thanks for the reminder.

Wait, at the radio station they were full size CDs, did mini-disk make fullsize too?

The very first versions did not have MP3 recognition on them. The software is atrocious and even more restrictive than apple, if you can even get it working. If you can, please let me know as I have some tracks on a few mini discs that I would like to copy other than playing them through audible.

I could not even tell you what software I was using. But it was Napster limewire days for what that's worth. I know my players were sony and I had a head deck for my truck that was a hacked drive for PC... Toshiba I think.

I remember no issues with UI but it was years ago so you may be right. Im not even sure what i.would use to look at those disks if i can access them.

I found the original software, and it only works on old versions of windows. I tried emulating that and even using an old PC to install windows XP. The computer recognized that a device was connected, but the software didn't.

Hey faggot im not a nigger i dont smoke dope. I was a highschooler and the station had them all labeled Gold Discs but after some duckduckgoing im kinda certain thats not their name, just what the station called them.
