My mother's vehicle was broken into. A little emergency cash was stolen, nothing of serious value, but the dumbfuck drops his phone along with a few identifying items, such as his health insurance card. After a quick search I've got his address, as he's a registered sex offender, assault and battery under 14. What to do?

I suppose that would depend on whether they ping the phone's final location or if they somehow pull location data and see the 24-48 hour stay at the mom's house. Because I would imagine if the phone weren't where it was found, then the officers would not encounter the neighbors and hear about the break in, again according to your theory.

My theory has a lot of grey area for sure. I like to treat unknown variables as guarantees so as to err on the side of caution. It could likely be that I am completely wrong, but I wouldn't bet years of my life on it. Play to win
