You know what I figured out a long time ago? Having psychic powers wouldn't mean squat. First of all, most of the psychic powers that are valued, we already have in the form of machines. You want levitation? Buy an airplane. You want telepathy? Buy a cell phone. You want to be able to lift a car? Get a lift-truck. You want to be able to move really fast? Buy a motorcycle. And another thing -- having psychic powers would not place you above the law, or above the standards of moral and ethical behavior. You wouldn't go around killing people, just because you had the power to kill with your mind. What difference is there between killing with your mind, or killing with a gun? If you really wanted to kill people, you could buy a gun and shoot them from behind a bush in the darkness. Nothing is stopping you except (1) the fear of legal punishment, and (2) your own moral values as a human being. We don't go around killing others without psychic powers -- why would we suddenly start if we got psychic powers. We wouldn't. To sum up, having psychic, or mutant, powers would not really enable you to do much you can't already do in our modern technological society; and having psychic powers would not free you from the restraints of the justice system and your own moral inhibitions.
