Why the lie? To put it simply, Jews do not want their tax slaves leaving their tax farm. The flat earth doesn't have an edge you'll fall off of. There is MORE LAND down there. More land to the south means a new NEW world. Much like those pesky rebels that left the Queen's rule and started America for religious and tax freedom, we could start over in a new land and once again break free of the tax farm we all belong to.
