What is required for a true threat?

Legally, it fits the exact definition.

It's a threat to coerce someone to do something, with an "or else" component.

It's specific, in that it states who would be doing it... using SDF.

In all 50 states it fits the legal definition.

Curious what you think qualifies.

422 PC states that “any person who willfully threatens to commit a crime which will result in death or great bodily injury to another person, with the specific intent that the statement, made verbally, in writing, or by means of an electronic communication device, is to be taken as a threat, even if there is no intent of actually carrying it out,

Think about it this way: if that post were illegal, xbox live, steam, PS live etc would be empty and prisons would be filled with teenagers.

e:

It's a weird area to try and figure out because there are cases where White kids are arrested for obvious nonthreat "threats" in video games online.

Hyperbole.

I'm going to take that as you admitting you're wrong.

How was that hyperbole? Those are real life examples of people saying worse than "Im going to slaughter your family" online daily. Nothing happens.

Whatever dude. To make a true threat specifics need to be had. The location of the threatened person, the identity of the threatened person, a time etc.

I'm going to slaughter your family.

Not a true threat.

Just like;

If they ever make me carry a rifle, I'd want <name of the POTUS> in my sights first.

Is a legal statement.
