I just got contacted by a family member wanting help. Apparently her family had some land in WV way back when and it was sold when she was young. But apparently, the mineral rights were not. She's being told her share is worth about $2, but they are (((generously))) offering her $200. What should her first step be?

why would you accept basically nothing? (200usd) tell them cease and desist, and if they dont, hire a lawyer from the area with a record of success in similar cases (and look for nonprofits, grants, etc that help people fight fracking/mineral rights claims -- you might get free legal). Careful of which lawyer you hire though - most just collect a check and barely show up.
