There are plenty of shills using vote gaming alts thinking they will go unnoticed. So when they get caught by the algorithm, all the votes they casted are cancelled.
Now the thing is you can't downvote more than you upvote. So they will go and randomly upvote things so they can cast the equivalent downvotes to target users.
When their votes get cancelled, users who got artificially upvoted will also lose the related points.
