Had a pedigree GSD, best friend I ever had and the smartest dog I ever owned. Not a dog whisperer but am pretty good at training dogs. I like larger breeds, unfortunately they tend to have shorter life spans. So far I've been leaning towards either a Caucasian or Anatolian shepherd. Anyone have any experience with either of the breeds? Other large breeds with a longer life span that I may not be aware of? Price isn't an issue. I am partial to shepherds.

Belgian Malinois are awesome breeds. It is the breed of the military and secret service most of the world over. I would also suggest checking on rescueme.org to adopt one that needs a home.

Thank you, I'll add that to my choice list, good life expectancy too!

They are the absolute best dogs. I'm on my second. Fiercely loyal and gay for directions.

I think I'm sold on this breed now. How hard is the socialization process? My German shepherd was absolutely fine around all animals and other well trained dogs but would flip his shit around any dog that would make an aggressive move towards him (always purse dogs).

Great dogs but can be destructive when bored. We have one that is trained (and runs with a german shepard & rotty) that guards the inner two acres around the house of our place...great guard dog and they have zero fear. We have three great pyrs on the outer acreage to protect the cattle, between the 3 pyrs and the three dogs around the house we never get visitors...of any kind
