The basic elements of design include color, line, shape, scale, space, texture and value. In a few words, any successfully designed object must be ergonomic, proportional and functional. It's a pet peeve of mine. Whenever I buy an appliance, I study it to see where the industrial designer made mistakes, and how they could have been corrected. I should have been an industrial designer.
