Ive never gotten any response calling deer with vocals other than calling in some does incidentally while making fawn bleats to call bears.

Yeah ive tried grunting during the rut and tried the stupid estrous cans and never had it work for me, but i have had a little success rattling. My current bearzooka is a .444 marlin. Bought it last january and took 3 bears with it that year, no tracking required. Ill be using it again this year, along with bringing my .460 if i can call one in close enough to feel good about making a clean kill with a revolver. Really like <15 yards. Spring bear season starts in less than 3 weeks.
yeah, the guy who taught me said its basically a sign of weakness when you are able to attract a deer in rut, because he only comes to you if he thinks he can win XD
maybe the deer are just rightfully afraid of you..
