Back in the 50s-60s(?) there were lots of stories and animated films about "Johnny Appleseed" roaming the Northeast back in the 1700s(?) spreading apple seeds to grow apple trees every where. One of the theories I like is that it was so the pioneers/settlers would have lots of apples to make cider (the alcoholic version) to get vitamin C and to stay drunk during the hard winters. Others research may vary.

The real story of johnny appleseed was he was a smart salesmen selling apple seeds across the new territories. However the produce value may still be legit.
