Combination of seemingly random issues. The environment is recognized as half broken, there isnt anything anyone can do to help me except to escalate it which hasnt worked in the past. The management and user stories are over engineered, and my pull requests come off as finicky. Ill review stuff with QA, only to be told to redo it because it doesnt work AFTER i reviewed it with them same day. And ive never seen people to overengineer a basic functionality such as setting a button value into 25 files. I get it, its modular, but it also makes it a humongous PITA to debug and code when someone is forcing design patterns down your throat.
There was a great conversation at one point about the over reliance on design patterns and how a lot of times they are used when not needed.
If you can't succeed in this environment, then plan to leave. There's no reason to struggle.
Damn man, that sounds awful to have to deal with. Should try and find a small company to work with instead of a large corporation.
My job is to write firmware for instrumentation and software for user interaction with said instrumentation. Also a bit of industrial automation stuff built from scratch. Nobody ever once got in my way, questioned my decisions, forced a design pattern on me, put me through performance reviews.. etc.. Probably because it's a small company of like 50 folks. Pretty much have done whatever the hell I want, so long as I keep on making things happen without screwing up too terribly.
Well it's obvious what you need to do, which is play their HR snowflake game. It sounds like you have a lot of room to request accomodations as well as file grievances. Rustle some jimmies under the guise of discrimination if that's what you perceive.
So whip out the rayciss card? Allthough i cant use that one, im white. Maybe i can whip out the handicap one or something
Disability discrimination is definitely a card any white person can still play. Also it's interesting that sometimes people find out they had a Syrian or Turkish grandmother from the immigration wave of 1880 which qualify them as a white minority.
