When you submit an image through poal submit page, it is sent to pic8 that will then return the proper short url.
Right, I have noticed this. But (AFAIK) if you post an image in a comment this does not happen- which is why I do it. Sometimes I prefer the image label to show, as it is part of the message or an indicator to the reader of what to expect, rather than random hash label.
You can't submit an image in the comment, but that's something we could consider.

Personally I am ok with it how it is. As I said, I often want the image label to show in a comment because it is part of a pun, explanation of what the image is, etc.

Without the label, the reader might not get what the image is.
While we are on this topic, I do have one suggestion concerning pic uploads though. When making Posts, I have a heck of a time getting dragged images to get accepted, they almost always just pop up in the browser instead of being accepted in the "Image: Choose file" box. I have tried every way I can as far as aligning the drag with the box, and it is really finicky. Not sure how this would be corrected, I am supposing it would mean enlarging the target box area or something.
