I got real good at making websites but now they're so easy to make no one needs me and they aren't even impressed with how good I am at CSS. Plus it seems to have turned out to be a skill that's only useful if you work for a company because if you're small enough a simple website with a service or two will do.

What's the modern version of making websites? I'd love to get ahead of the curve on something and dare I say it, work for myself.

You don't sell websites, you help businesses succeed. You are correct, web sites are easy to publish and anyone can do it using wordpress and other CMS based systems. Rather, what you should do is help people advertise and gain customers. Websites being a part of that service. You are called a digital marketing expert. You set them up with a website, social media strategy, selling platform, marketing channels and other strategies to help their business. You also help them with technology.

Teaching out of work leftist journalists how to make websites. You can reach prospective clients on twitter - just use hashtag #learntocode! They will be hammering on your door! But never mind the FBI, you will get hordes of ex-journalists clamoring to learn a new profession!
