I'm not a lawyer
I don't know much about it except Bill S. Preston esq.
I think we should knight each other instead and address one another as Sir
"The title is not allocated by the law of any state to any profession, class, or station in society. However, some state bar associations, such as the New York bar association, protect the use of the term esquire, and have held that use of the term connotes licensure in the jurisdiction, so that its use by non-lawyers amounts to unauthorized practice of law."
From my reading, as long as you're not in Jew York or Ohio, and you're not actually trying to make people think you're a licensed shekel-sniffer, they can't do anything. But as always, if they get annoyed enough, they'll find a way to make it explicitly "illegal."
