Though I'm a coffee aficionado, I don't know how to roast my own beans, but I do know who roasts the best beans. It's definitely the Germans using 100% Columbian Supremo beans. The best filtered coffee I've had in my life was in fact in Germany.
In Chicago, where I've lived for about a decade, Intelligentsia Coffee uses an old German roasting machine to make excellent roasted Columbian coffee. They are the closest thing I found to German's coffee in the USA.
In Canada, there are small roasters that have similar processes.
Anyways, I used to work with a coworker in Chicago who knew how to roast coffee just like the Germans, so I know it is doable at home.
Fill us in with a video once you've figured it out.
Godspeed.
