It sounds good but remember you are competing with every single immigrant that comes to your city in construction. Competitive wages and it's a tough life a lot of the time. Driving an hour in traffic and working in the rain etc.
Skilled trades are overwhelming still white because they require higher thinking, speaking and math skills. Lower skilled trades like drywalling and framing are almost exclusively hispanic.
Yeah, I know several folks in trades and I was worried that'd be what everyone here would recommend.
I was right.... I hate being right.
Thing is, if it comes down to it then that's what I'll end up doing, but like I told another guy: We all get old eventually and can't do what we used to be able to... And I hate traveling anywhere unfamiliar. Welding is fun, but like fucking Hell am I crossing the state for a job that could shut down for whatever reason.
That's why you make fuck-off money before you get old, having saved money away for that time, and also completely owning your own house outright also because of said fuck-off money. Once you own your own house, expenses go right down.
