Our economy is already completely floating to create artificial scarcity, to create job dependence as a mechanism of controlling the population through government backed cartel mega corporations. Food, housing, medical care, etc. should be basically negligible in cost due to technological advancement, but the government fixes the markets to keep it high and keep you dependent on employment. Your employer can then dictate aspects of your life and politics for the government. The thing about economics in the USA is we can't really have a discussion about how to balance it because it's rigged to the point that there is no what to tell the actual production costs of anything.
