I used to use Ubuntu back in 08, is it better now? And is it based?

Linux is just an OS. An OS shouldn't be woke, or based. It should just function as required.

As for Ubuntu, it is better, but waning in popularity. If you still want something Ubuntu/Debian based, then you're better off trying Mint.
